Walking is such a great way for moms to stay healthy…if you actually put in the steps. I know that I have been guilty of big plans and no follow through before. Sound familiar? That’s why I’m excited to try the walking app 99 Walks!
Note: This is a sponsored post and I received compensation for writing it. As always, the opinions and experiences are my own and something I think will be beneficial to my readers.
Set Goals and Earn Jewelry
99 Walks harnesses the power of community, technology, and the simple act of walking into a way for moms to get healthy together. I like that I set my own goals and then get rewarded for achieving them. They recommend 33 miles per month, but I can choose what works best for me.
What I like best about this walking apps is that members who walk at least 25 miles per month earn a pretty hand-stamped silver bracelet with the theme of the month.
I get jewelry for walking? Yes, please!
A Walking App Team Effort
In addition to your personal goals, 99 Walks encourages you to form and join virtual teams. This means you can walk with your friends on your schedule. Whether people from your neighborhood, your friend states away, or a group you meet in the 99 Walks Facebook page, moms near and far can encourage one another in this walking app.
The folks at 99 Walks looked at data from a Macaroni Kids survey of 2,300 moms that found 73 percent of them were lonely. Not surprisingly, 89 percent wanted to lose weight, and improved fitness was a goal of 90 percent of those surveyed. But walking with friends meant the women were two and a half times less likely to be lonely!
I love that 99 Walks cares not only about physical health but wants users to be emotionally healthy as well. Though you can certainly use the app individually and only crush personal goals, the community aspect makes this walking app fun. You can even schedule phone calls with your friends so you can walk and talk together no matter where you are.
Meeting my walking goals also forces my family to get involved. I almost always have at least one of the kids with me, so I love that I can grab the stroller and go. Whenever possible, I like to make it a complete family affair. My husband and son will tag along, often bringing a football or something to toss as we go. I want my kids to think that exercise is just a normal part of life and can be fun!
Professional Instructors Guide Your Walk
With the 99 Walks app on my iPhone, I have access to on-demand walking classes from their professional instructors. It’s like a personal guide to help me get actual exercise out of my walk. And you control the volume of the voice and music to find the perfect mix. There are also meditation and podcast audio options.
For example, I chose one of the exercise sessions with Coach Eric. He guided me when to increase and decrease the pace and gave examples of what those steps should sound like. As an added bonus, the topic of this walk was reducing social media use and I walked away (Get it? Walked away? Insert your groans here…) with practical ways to get off the devices once per week.
You know my mom heart was thrilled with all the multitasking I could do for body and mind in about 30 minutes!
Stay Motivated
One of my biggest struggles with any type of training or workout program is motivation. That’s why I like 99 Walks multifaceted approach to keep you going. For those internally driven, there is personal goal tracking. If you are externally motivated, the team approach is great. Plus, the ability to earn jewelry is the cherry on top!
No matter your driving force, getting and staying healthy is the ultimate goal with this walking program.
Try 99 Walks for Free!
The folks at 99 Walks have several payment options to give you the best deal. The bracelet and walking program could cost $45 per month other places, but 99 Walks is just $9 per month when you sign up for the annual plan. Or you can pay $16 each month with the monthly plan. There is also a quarterly payment option.

Bottom Line on 99 Walks
I love that 99 Walks has an app to track my walks, provide professional instruction, and keep me motivated. The social team approach is great to keep moms connected to other women. And earning free jewelry for achieving goals is a fun idea. Plus, it is affordable, especially with the annual plan.
Luckily, I live near an outdoor walking trail with plenty of paved areas to explore. But in the cooler months or bad weather, I’ll have to find an indoor track or mall to get my miles in. I think this is the biggest downside of the program, but with a little creativity, this can be worked around.
Overall, if you are looking for an easy-to-use walking program that keeps you motivated and connects you with others, 99 Walks is definitely worth a try!

I’ve never heard of this app before, but it’s such a great way to get people out and active! I love the idea of moms connecting through it and the corresponding social media – what better way to find others who likely share many of the same challenges you do in staying active with your schedule and lifestyle!
The community aspect makes it more likely that I’ll continue.
