We’ve reached the final week of my blog series on Always Eat After 7 PM. My goal from the beginning was to be healthier and have more energy to keep up with my kids. I think this plan exceeds that goal by also helping me lose weight, and it is something I can sustain. Of course, this program, like any diet, requires some work and self-discipline. But the author lays it out in an easy-to-follow way.
The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.
I’m currently in the Main Phase and find it much easier to stick to than the Acceleration Phase. In fact, I get an entire cheat day each week (or cheat meal if you don’t exercise)! But even on normal days, I love that I’m allowed big portions for dinner of Super Carbs.
The other night we had BLT salads and baked potatoes with dessert, all while following the Always Eat After 7 PM program. You read that right. Bacon, lettuce, and tomato salads. Another night we ate the yummy Cheesy Ground Beef Skillet, full of hamburger meat, rice, and cheese. One of my favorite late-night snacks is the delicious Frozen Dessert Bark with strawberries and chocolate chips. I can’t believe it’s allowed on a diet! Once I meet my weight-loss goal, I move on to the even more flexible Lifestyle Phase.
Joel Marion’s plan is designed to help you lose weight and keep it off, which I think gives you a realistic guide to continue this program indefinitely. He says in the book, “The Lifestyle Phase is designed to help you stay thin and fit, while avoiding a recurrence of problems with your metabolism or rebound weight gain. While still technically a part of the Always Eat After 7 PM plan, the Lifestyle Phase is more a flexible set of guidelines to live by than a “diet” per se. It is a continuation of all the strategies you’ve grown used to so far.”
This book has flipped what I thought I knew about breakfast and late-night snacking on its head. I found it much easier to delay meals until later in the day than I ever imagined.
