Exercising consistently has always been a struggle for me. I had a gym membership once but found all the equipment and actual fit people a little intimidating. Plus, it was expensive!
On the other hand, working out at home is tough because I don’t know proper form or what exercises to do. And no accountability makes it easy to skip out and just watch Netflix with a buttery bowl of popcorn instead.
Now that I have kids, it’s even more difficult to make time to find time to get fit. I tried to pass off “chasing my kids around the house” as my exercise routine at my last physical. My doctor was not impressed.
My Experience with the Gixo App
That’s why I’m glad I found Gixo. Gixo is like carrying a personal trainer around in your pocket. This fitness app is perfect for busy moms who want to be healthy and strong without the expense of a gym.
With the Gixo app, you use your phone to join classes with a live coach. This means you can ask questions and get feedback during your workout. It also means there is an outside party who keeps you accountable, which made me push through when I was ready to quit.
I tried Gixo the first time over spring break, so both of my kids were home. Coach Sarah’s 15-minute indoor cardio class was my first course. The live classes work sort of like Facetime using your phone’s camera so the coach can see you. Don’t worry, only the trainer has access to the video and not the other members of the class.
My son and daughter weren’t initially excited about exercising with me, but as soon as they realized Sarah could see them, the little hams were all in. And since they are so cute trying to do jumping jacks and ladder climbers, Coach Sarah was distracted from how winded I was attempting to work out!
My coordination level leaves a lot to be desired, so going to a big group class was never my thing. In college, two of my roommates were on the dance team. They would invite their fellow dancers to our dorm for group tae bo and beg me to join in. It will be easy, they said.
Wrong! I turned the wrong way, couldn’t figure out when to kick or hit, and basically just entertained the dance team for 30 minutes. In other words, I couldn’t keep up with the class and had no desire to put myself up for future group humiliation again.
But with Gixo, I can exercise in the comfort of my own home but still get the benefit of a class. I like that before each new set of movements, the Gixo fitness app shows a video of what you will be doing. You get a few seconds to just watch how it works before you proceed yourself.
I found this to be really beneficial. The indoor cardio class included warmups, the workout, and stretches at the end. For each step, I watched a video of someone correctly doing the exercise that I could copy. The live coach was there to encourage all of us along the way.
There is also a combination of songs that perfectly fit the workout. Gixo lets you control the volume of the coach versus the music for your preferences. And they email you the soundtrack list after the class along with a summary of your achievements.
In the end, I was proud of myself for what I accomplished. I got a great workout at home, with my kids, and didn’t need any special equipment. Gixo is exactly what this busy mom needs to get in shape!
Gixo Fitness App Classes
In addition to the live classes with a coach, Gixo also has on demand recorded classes you can access any time. These are great if you are squeezing a workout in when you get a moment of free time. You can also pause them if a kid has to have a drink of water or someone drops something valuable in the toilet. Not that I have any experience with this…
There are hundreds of classes available for a variety of fitness levels and interests. The outdoor walking and running classes have you tuck your phone in a pocket while the coach guides you primarily through audio for different intervals.
With classes in strength, running, HIIT, yoga, walking, weights, kickboxing, treadmill, stretching, and bootcamp, there is something for everyone! And the Gixo app and coaches help personalize and track a program to meet your fitness goals, regardless of your fitness level.
You can also join a training challenge to prepare for a 5K or 10K at the end of the month, or something similar depending on the month.
